5×7 Wedding Photo Albums
Am I spending too much on photographer?
The wedding photographer that we hired is a local professional who does AMAZING work. He is one of the most sought after photographers in the area. However, with great work comes a substantial price.
He offers “packages” that go from $900 to whatever you want to spend.
I’m looking at a package for $1850 (including tax). It includes 7 hours of shooting. 200 photos we pick out for an album, 2 5X7’s, a mounted photo with backing, and a couple other blow-ups.
Is this reasonable?
The next package down is $200 dollars less, and you only get 120 pictures
I’m a wedding photog and I won’t shoot a wedding for under 2500. People pay it because I am good at what I do, and I give between 250-400 pics, proofs only, an album and 6 hours coverage for that. I also make an online slideshow and provide $200 print credit for any enlargements the couple wants later.
$900 i ssuper cheap, but it depends on the market you are in. Honestly I don’t know a single photog in my city who has shot more than 10 weddings in his/her career who would do it so cheap. Anyone can come up with 10 great shots from a bunch of jobs, but have you looked at an entire wedding this guy has shot? If he’s as good as you say, he’s incredibly cheap.
BTW, Mad Scientist doesn’t know what he is talking about in regards to taxation. Yes, it is true that in most states, you tax products and not labor, but most states view the labor of photography as resultant in a product, so even session fees must be taxed.
